MacWipe vs MacKeeper

MacKeeper is a Mac utility and security suite made by Clario Tech FZCO, based in Dubai, UAE. It combines cleaning tools with real-time antivirus, an ad blocker, a VPN and identity-theft monitoring, and it offers human support by chat and phone. The version we checked was 7.8 (September 2026).

MacWipe is narrower: it finds caches, large files and leftover app files, and checks for adware and unsigned apps. The two cover different ground, so the table compares terms and behaviour rather than feature counts.

Every fact about MacKeeper below was checked on 27 October 2026 and links to its source. MacWipe's facts were checked against the app on the same date.

How to uninstall

MacWipe

Drag MacWipe.app to the Trash. A few small files stay in your user Library (listed below the table).

MacKeeper

Quit from the menu bar menu, drag the app to the Trash, click Continue, then confirm with an admin password or Touch ID. If the StopAd extension was installed, allow "MacKeeperUninstaller" when asked. MacKeeper says no third-party tool is needed.

Background helpers and agents

MacWipe

MacWipe installs no privileged helper, launch daemon, launch agent, XPC service or system extension. The optional "Open MacWipe at login" setting is off unless you turn it on, and macOS removes it when the app is deleted.

MacKeeper

A menu-bar Dashboard stays available when the app is closed, and Daily Scan is on by default. There is an optional real-time protection system extension (com.mackeeper.AntivirusEndpointSecurity) and an optional StopAd Safari extension. We did not install MacKeeper, so we list no other components.

Data and network use

MacWipe

Network use is limited to licence checks (website edition) and the update feed. The app has no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting software.

MacKeeper

The privacy policy says the macOS app collects device name, model, serial number, MAC address, IP address, installed-app details, scan results, browser and network information and crash data. It says MacKeeper does not sell personal data. Its optional Premium Services use remote-access tools (TeamViewer, LogMeIn).

What stays on your Mac after you drag MacWipe to the Trash

  • ~/Library/Preferences/com.macwipe.direct.plist (website edition), or the container at ~/Library/Containers/<bundle id> (App Store edition)
  • The Keychain item "com.macwipe.direct.licence" (website edition licence)
